NIGERIA,A FIELD OF BLOOD

Posted by: Okey Iwuji in: ● January 22, 2008

It has become a way of life for one to wake up daily with one news of blood letting or the other in this part of the world.A day seems not well made without this gory tale from pole to pole.A group of people gather at different points  to share either a riot, assasination, armed robbery, militant, rape, cultism, gangsterism  or another form of homicide, and accidents on our roads which left many dead.
One begins to wonder how once peaceful nation suddenly joined the league of nations where blood meant not more but water used for house chores to be thrown away. Some African nations could boast that theirs are in course of freedom fighting but not the case with Nigeria. The average number of homicides commit daily out number those recorded during the civil war of 1967-1970.At least, one could appreciate the fact that war was on and everyone tried to exercise caution to the best of ability than the present theatre of blood. You do the best not to stray into the enemies territory unlike today where a person beckoning and calling one to enter a bus to some destination is his assiliant or a person with friendly smile by the busstop in a short while deeps his hands in your blood. If it was altogether war,we would not complain at least one will realise that death is imminent especially those within the range of flying bullets and mortars.
We owe God and humanity explanations why our nation should be a den of slaughter. Not that we have not attained  civilization to some acceptable level, hungry or lack  more than other societies where human diginity is treated with utmost regard. The painful aspect is that it appears our government has no solution to this sorrowful state judging from the cotinued silence over the issue as media houses daily report this debauchery.Every one carries his heart on the chest whenever beloved ones who went out in the morning is still unsight.Families lift hands to high heavens as night census assures completeness of members. The funniest thing is that this beasts of human sort hold their lives and families so dear while delight in spilling others blood.
Oh it’s countless number of people whose lives are wasted by happy trigger policemen, bullets of assassins and political thugs, students hacked down by cultists axe, rampage armed robbers, victims of insensitive strikes of past regimes.Today, ritualist activities cause the most sleepless nights. There are fears within and without having spread their dragnets far and near employing every unthinkable to haunt their preys.Any effort to play a good samaritan to a purported stranger for a street direction or offer a ride to supposed stranded fellow puts ones life in peril.Day and night men are led through forests of death to gallows. When shall all these cease men wonder in wordless outcry.
Some have accused men in power as patrons of this illict business and that account for looking the other side while men perish. Is it not the same government that levelled the people of udi and zakibiam at the command of one tyrant and now helpless to rescue a nation from the jaw of predators yet the descriptions of these jungles are known to every one of us.Many times ,I am forced to imagine the procession footmatch of men, women and children along the paths of these kumirukiki with wailings comparable to that of chick in claws of a hawk. Also how the future of these country is being traded for a curse from God because people must live in affluence or remain in power.Well,it is a price for love of money, luxury and comfort that has webed the entire world. And ours is dearly paid for.
I could not hold my tears while reading account of a brother that was flagged down by police uniform dressed people whose touch hypnotised him till he realised in the jungle that he has entered into bad hands. His is one those miraclous interventions of God being testified in our churches by those whom God chose to show mercy and to teach the sons of men his existence in the midst of men.
Do you still remember that God cursed the earth because of the blood of Abel whom Cain slew? So,each day a blood is shed a curse is repeated on our land.Think therefore how many people are slain each trip. Some will say in their testimony that not fewer than seventy people were slain, just one time or day.How can a nation be stained with blood and seek to progress in their endeavours. No wonder our nation lacked progress despite abundance of resources.
Are you a blood let-ter,God calls you to repentance from this evil act so that he might have mercy on you.
