I was not moved to watch the Big Brothers Africa 2 show because I could not convince myself what the intensions of the organisers were if not to promote indecent affairs having heard about the first show hosted sometime last year.
Secondly, being priveleged to attend mixed schools from primary to post graduate studies I know that the barrier in relationship between two strangers whether same sexes or opposite sexes is a matter of days provided there is a continues close contact.
Remember,Man,as a social animal readily adjust to whatever or relate to whoever that is available in his new environment .That reminds me our experience during youth service programme.we were posted to places some of us have not being to before nor have a close relation. We were drawn from different parts of the country, therefore, were strangers one to another but bound together by corpers uniform. In a matter of days tribal and sex differences were swallowed by espirite de corps. How much more when full blooded adults were confined in a home from morning to night for ninety days plus without serious assignment to keep them busy only to eat, chat, dance, sleep. So,finding companionship and frienship among the housemates is natural with man especially when it was designed that the housemates cook and do many things in common. With time familiarity broke every barrier, hence, all that happened in the show that drew my attention to write.
Infact, one saturday morning I met one of my neighbours on the floor of his palour with his eyes glued to his Tele as early as eight o’clock. His uncompromised attention to the screen while the discussion lasted raised a curiousity in me to ask what type of film with motionless picture? It was BBA2,they were asleep,he disclosed to me.Then I remembered reading about them at the wake of the programme.
My questions are does it mean that all the African people crying out now did not visualise that this might happen as I
did.Does it mean I was over sensitive when I felt nothing more to this programme than mating of men and women hedged like animals whose owners would want to conceive?Does it mean that Africans wanted to find out whether their children have succumbed to the wave of immorality blowing fiercely across the World over?Is it true that Africans are not enjoying every bit, like my neighbour and failed to cry out on time?Or could it be that poverty in Africa has silenced our conscience that every one hallowed dollar more than dignity that none of the parents could discourage their children from participating?
Another questions to the organisers are what exactly is in their mind when arranging these shows? Are they wanting to experiment whether money is the root of evil?Whether to prove that African children are not better cultured than their white counterpart especially when dollar is involved? Is there no script guiding the activities of the show? And if there is,what did the organisers do when the discoverd that the housemates have gone beyond specifics?
To the housemates, who among them would sincerely argue that he or she does not have premonition of what to meet when enrolling, passing through selection and leaving their home countries.OR did not watch or heard about Big Brothers America from where African’s BBA was adapted?Who among them complained to opt out when what was discussed are being introduced? who frowned when the opposite sex made his way into his room or amorous advances with those flirting languages?
Those calling the head of Richard should think. What did she do when the above issues are happening.Who is that individual that would stand in such sex charged environment for weeks? What is in ofunneka’s mind when she realised that Richard has been messing Tiana up and yet getting closer to him?
Ok,ofunneka, tooka man who claimed to be 24 yrs serious? who left his family to such enclosure for months for dollar a decent and respectable one?A man who wore a dreadlock and earrings did not suggest to her a play boy and rascal?
I wonder where she exhibited the intelligence unless we could agree that all that happened was concensions of grown adults. Can a man in repectable profession like banking, accounting, law wear earring, noseringetc.Only, the rascals in show business do all that.
How could she imagine that Richard became a saint overnight? Anyway, all the parties got what the bargain for both the housemates, organisers and african people.
The Nigeria National assembly should come up with some laws that will check the activities of similar shows like the ultimate search,Nollywood shows etc because they might resusciatate this aspect of the programme sooner consdering the rate immorality is rising in the world.
